Double Success at "Mathématiques sans Frontières"

Two classes from Gymnasiums bei St. Michael in Schwäbisch Hall celebrated a shared victory in this year’s international team competition “Mathématiques sans Frontières”. Classes 9b and 9c each achieved 43.5 out of 65 points, finishing as the school’s joint winners. Among 119 participating classes, they both secured an impressive 28th place.

“Mathématiques sans Frontières” is open to students in grades 9 to 11. Unlike many traditional mathematics competitions, the challenges are solved collaboratively by the entire class working in teams. The competition combines mathematical thinking with teamwork and problem-solving skills. One task is presented in a foreign language and must also be answered in that language. Today, more than 200,000 students from around the world take part in the competition each year.

In recognition of their achievement, essendi it is sponsoring a special prize for all 43 students from the two winning classes: a science lab day at experimenta in Heilbronn, Germany’s largest science centre, where they will have the opportunity to explore science and technology through hands-on experiments.

The award ceremony took place on 15 July at Gymnasium bei St. Michael. The relaxed atmosphere and the excitement ahead of the summer holidays were evident throughout the event.

Before receiving their certificates, the students were introduced to essendi it in a short presentation. They also gained a first insight into the fundamentals of modern cryptography. Using simple examples, they learned how symmetric and asymmetric encryption work and why these technologies play such an important role in today’s digital world.
